The Pre-AP 2D art course is designed to prepare students for the rigor and challenges of AP Studio Art – 2D Design or AP Drawings. Through a series of structured projects, students will develop critical thinking skills and hone their ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate two-dimensional art forms. The course will cover a wide range of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, and mixed media. Students will also study contemporary and historical artists and movements in art, as well as explore issues related to cultural context and representation. In addition to producing original works of art, students will be expected to engage in meaningful critiques and discussions with their peers, developing their ability to articulate and defend their artistic choices. The course will culminate in a portfolio of work that showcases students' growth and accomplishments over the course of the year. By the end of this course, students will have developed the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in advanced level art courses and pursue further study in college and beyond. This course aligns with the College Board's Pre-AP framework, which emphasizes the development of college-level skills and Studio Habits of Mind.
