Visual Journaling – 0837CP            Grades 9 – 12                  .5 Credits Semester

Art journals or visual journals have been used throughout history by visionaries like Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Edison, and Frida Kahlo to work through ideas and themes. In this entry-level art course, students will use visual journals to develop critical thinking skills and foster personal growth, in alignment with the MA Visual Art Standards and the Studio Habits of Mind. Through mixed media elements such as painting, drawing, printmaking, and collage, students will experiment, reflect, and document their ideas through art and writing. The course emphasizes the use of visual journals as a tool for exploration and research, fostering artistic confidence and providing opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. By the end of the course, students will have developed a range of new skills that can be applied across various disciplines.
