Pottery 2 - 08562CP Grades 9* – 12 .5 Credit Semester
Grade 9 students can only take this course in their second semester, once they’ve completed
Sculpture 1.
Pottery 2 is an advanced level course designed to build upon the fundamental hand-building techniques learned in Pottery 1. In this semester long course, students focus on developing their skills in wheel throwing, a more complex and challenging technique in ceramics. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of form, function, and design, with students learning how to create a variety of functional forms. In addition to learning how to center on the wheel, students will be introduced to the techniques of altering, trimming, and assembling thrown pieces to create unique forms. Throughout the course, students will study the works of both former and contemporary pottery artists, examining their techniques and artistic styles to develop their own unique approach to pottery making. They will also be encouraged to engage in independent research and experimentation to develop their personal style and creative voice. Much like Pottery 1, this curriculum integrates the MA Visual Art Standards and Studio Habits of Mind in the project-based assessments. Click here for Pottery 2 Gallery
